This past Saturday I had the privilege of participating in the first annual Literacy Across Harlem march, hosted by Total Equity Now and the Harlem Book Fair. The march served not only as a pro-literacy rally, it also provided a vehicle for people to take concrete action by bringing book donations for the Literary Zone program at the Harlem YMCA. We collected hundreds of books, with still more to collected from pledgers who couldn’t make it out to the fair on Saturday.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to the sponsoring organizations, my fellow marchers, and all of the people who donated books.
If you missed the march this year don’t worry – you can plan to join next year at the 2013 Harlem Book Fair.
